Tabitha D. James
Author, mentor, director, philanthropist, scholar, researcher, media personality and the list goes on; for a woman who despises titles, she wears many hats—Tabitha is a native of rural South Carolina who currently has a nomadic work-life profile. She is the caretaker for her beloved mother while concurrently creating a life and legacy to be proud of. As a freelance professional, she thrives by leveraging her skills to develop a creative and interesting career.
Tabitha is an alum of Coastal Carolina University and Florida Atlantic University with a background in business, hospitality and leadership studies. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and spends a significant amount of her free-time mentoring young ladies, serving on various nonprofit boards and volunteering with civic organizations. Tabitha found herself immensely involved while pursuing her degrees thus sparking her interest to learn more about professionals who work with students. Prior to becoming a full-time entrepreneur, Tabitha worked in Career and Student Support Services at a for-profit institution in North Carolina.
Though no longer working directly in the field of higher education, Tabitha continues to speak, lead trainings and oversee consulting projects with colleges and universities nationwide. After her last position, she realized it was necessary to realign herself with vision and purpose before returning to the field full-time. Tabitha’s research interests in the field include: the disparities in minorities enrolled in business schools at predominately white institutions and the overall effectiveness of structured mentoring programs. One of her goals is to become an academic dean for a business school in America or abroad.
